Kelly & Shepherd is currently in the process of setting up a prototype GPS-based system, which will see GPS on all machines, as a cost control and QA tool. This is not for machine control, but in providing a record of where all machines been working, at what times, and where they are going.
As a result, it gives all parties a real-time view of all machines: for example, showing a client that machines are actually on the job and working (and not off on another job), or showing the QA manager or consultant that a roller has followed particular track and covered the entire job. It will also pick up areas that have not been covered.
Can see when machine went to work, hours worked, distance covered, actual route, from computer screen in the office. Can view in preset intervals (30 secs, 3 minutes, etc)
Advantages for client/consultant:Can see that machine was at work, properly covered job, did work was required, highlight potential areas that need to be looked at for rework.
The track of each machine can be viewed separately, or overlayed with others, to give a complete picture of the job on an hourly, daily or weekly basis.
